Intro to CV Control of Architectural Fixtures: DMX2dim

This video is a simplified introduction. See CV Control of Architectural Fixtures for detailed tutorial.

I. Introductory overview of architectural retrofitting for wireless dimming

A. System components demonstrated here are decorative lights and a bright Cree primary downlight; both would be integrated into a fixture

1. In this example, an RC4 DMX2dim dimmer will control drivers for the decorative light and the Cree downlight

2. Power is via a single mains power circuit

a. On site, there might be a wall switch controlling this circuit

3. When wireless is added to the fixture, control is via a simple DMX lighting console

4. Dimming of the decorative lighting and the Cree downlight can now be separately controlled wirelessly via the console, even though they are wired to the same mains circuit

a. Each instrument is controlled by a separate channel

5. Using the RC4 DMX2dim results in two separate channels of control in each of many individual fixtures all powered from the same circuit

a. In the past, all fixtures would have been controlled together with simple dimming of the mains circuit itself

b. adding wireless vastly expands and enhances control and lighting design possibilities

6. See the video CV Control of Architectural Fixtures for a closer look at the details.
