DMXio: Enable/Disable DMX Termination

I. If a DMXio transmitter is at the end of a long DMX data line, terminationTerminationIn the context of wired DMX data, termination is a very specific technical requirement.  To ensure the highest data fidelity, particularly over long cable lengths, a terminator should be used at the end of the line.  RC4 DMXio devices provides internal termination that can be enabled or disabled as needed.

of the DMX line may be required

II. Setting DMX termination on the DMXio

A. This is a “shift” feature, meaning it is invoked by holding the Function button like the shift key on a keyboard, then pressing another button

B. If not already on, apply power to the DMXio and wait for it to complete initialization and start-up

C. A DMX data cable can be present but is not required

D. Some firmware versions do not display the state of termination on the red RF Term indicator until after Auto Mode has invoked either transmit modeTransmit modeIn transmit, or transmission mode, data from an RC4 device is sent to another device, like a remote receiver or dimmer device.  In RC4Magic systems, a DMXio transceiver can be in either transmit or receive mode.  A pair of devices, one in each mode, replaces a physical DMX cable.

 or receive mode

E. Press Shift/DMX Term to toggle the state of DMX line termination:

1. Using a small tool like a bent paper clip, press and hold the Func/Shift button, also called the shift keyShift keyThe shift key (or the shift button) is also called the Function or Func button.  It works similarly to the shift key on a computer keyboard, allowing other buttons on a device to have secondary functions.

2. Press and release the DMX Term button (the same button used to select ID1 and to set the TX Low Channel limit)

3. Release the Func/Shift button

4. This entire 2-button process should be complete in less than 3 seconds to avoid invoking a long-press feature on the Shift/Func button

F. The green RF Termination indicator will come on, indicating that termination is active

1. A quiet click can also be heard, this is a small relay changing state inside the DMXio

2. Some firmware versions do not display the state of termination on the red RF Term indicator until after Auto Mode has invoked either transmit or receive mode

G. To turn off termination, repeat the 2-button process and observe the red indicator

H. The termination setting, either on or off, is remembered and will be restored after a power cycle
