RC4 Commander Configuration Software : 900MHz (Install Notes)

All-new RC4 Commander is available for both Mac and PC!

The current version supports RC4Magic Series 2 and Series 3, RC4Magic-900, and RC5 EASS systems.

You MUST request an encrypted RC4 System ID file to use RC4 Commander. The file format is NOT the same as used with our older RC4MagicPC software.

Please request your ID file here, and select the first Ticket Type (Request System ID for RC4 Commander).

Treat your ID file carefully — it is the key to your worldwide RC4 system security.

Obtain the RC4 Commander Configuration Software. Follow the steps outlined for the program download on that page.

Below are quick steps to help get you set up to using the RC4 Commander.

NOTE: you’ll need to unzip the System ID file you receive. Save on your desktop for quick access later.
You will need an RC4Magic 900MHz HG-Configuration Dongle or an RC4 S3 CodeLoader™ Cable along with a secondary unit. (Note: ensure your secondary is in “Dongle Mode”).

Launch the RC4 Commander program.

NOTE: if you are having a problem, try installing the driver from this page for your system then reconnect the dongle device you’re using : https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

Instructions:

  1. If you are using RC4 Commander software for the first time, make sure to have your private System ID file saved to your computer and accessible for use. We recommend saving to desktop for ease of use.
  2. Device Connection – For 900MHz gear, you can use a Series 3 HG-Dongle OR a Series 3 CodeLoader Cable with a Series 3 device for this step. (To put your DMXio into the appropriate mode for this step, once power is applied, push button ID3/Public. The light sequence will reverse.) Click “Next”.
  3. Open the Commander program and select “Run Setup Wizard” to proceed.
    1. Note: After this first setup, you can select “Use Saved Configuration” which will always contain your ID file and have it ready for use.
  4. Serial Port Selection – Select the available COM Port that denotes a dongle or dongle-mode device and click “Next”
  5. Select an RC4 System ID –  Click “Load ID File” and locate the System ID file saved to your computer. After selection, the System IDs will populate the dropdown menu and will auto select ID0. This can be changed by simply selecting another ID from the dropdown menu.
  6. Radio Configuration, The FHSS channel – For 900MHz gear, you need to ensure channel mask is correct. Unless you requested a custom mask be programmed to your device, your gear is using default masks. If you’re opening on any of your unique system IDs (excluding the “Public ID” option), the first mask in the list is associated with ID0, second mask in list is associated with ID1, and the third mask in the list is associated with ID2.
    1. NOTE: if you are using “999 – Public ID”, Commander will auto set the default mask for Public. The newest version of Commander auto selects the channel mask based on your choice of ID. For example, if you choose ID0, the mask will also set to the same system ID mask but you can check this to be sure.
  7. Click “Next” and the Commander program will open. Once a device is applied to power and set to the same ID you selected during setup, it will appear in this window.

Tip: There is no “Save” button, but all device options changed in Commander will be remembered by the device each time it is powered up.

One great new feature in RC4 Commander is that you can set each device to a unique Unit Number. You must do this step separately for each device, making sure no more than one is powered up and read by Commander at a time.
When you’ve got them all assigned to your desired Unit Numbers, you may plug them all in & they’ll populate the column on the left in descending order (1, 2, 3, etc…)
From there, you can select an item in the left hand column and make changes without time to power up & down.
